Hello friends! Recently, Emma (one of my closest friends) and I were at Stone Mountain together. We both had cameras, and enlisted my brother to do a mini-photoshoot for us. We got a few photos together, so Emma was inspired by this post to do a Q+A post. In the past week we’ve pulled this together – hopefully it will be enjoyable! There will be a mix of selfies, photos from Stone Mountain, and photos from when we were little. It also so happens that Monday was my blog anniversary, so this is as close as I’m getting to a blogiversary post. How have I been blogging for…

Writing updates + the beach + polaroid pictures
Hello, people. A few items of business to bring us up-to-date: we went to the beach! I’m still alive, I promise. I’m still a writer even if it doesn’t seem like it. Okay let me be honest here. Writing has not been coming easily. in fact, I haven’t written anything fictional besides the (very very) occasional flash fiction. it’s been hard. I don’t know why I haven’t been able to write. I thought I had gotten over my burnout, but I guess I didn’t. I’m still struggling with it. I’ve been writing more, though. I’m writing a story in a notebook for the first time in a long time,…

Sixteen going on seventeen
So I turned sixteen. What. It’s kind of weird, because sixteen was the age in books and movies where characters had boyfriends and cars and were Practically Grown Up™. They seemed SO OLD to Zane-a-long-time-ago. I mean, that’s Liesl’s age. In The Sound of Music. (LEISL!!!) AND I’M SIXTEEN NOW. (As of last Wednesday.) Help. At least I can sing “I am sixteen going on seventeen!” EXTREMELY LOUDLY and really mean it! (Although I haven’t even been able to because I have either an awful cold or allergies or something and can’t sing a note.) So, in honor of my sixteenth birthday, I’ll be telling you sixteen random facts about…

2018: QUARTERLY RECAP #1
Last year when I started blogging, I hated doing monthly recaps, but I did them because everyone else did them*.Toward the middle of the year I decided, what’s the point? If I hated it, why do it? *um… NOT A GOOD REASON. So at the beginning of 2018, I decided I’d do quarterly recaps, one every three months. And I would do them ANY WAY I LIKED. So, if you’re not too terrified, here’s my quarterly recap. LET US PROCEED. BOOKS (JANUARY – MARCH) The Blue Castle This is a truly beautiful book that I adored. I already reread it and forced it on my best friend…

to the artist: just begin
I know it’s hard to start. There’s a blank page, a blinking cursor, white empty space that needs to be filled. I know there’s that pressure. You want to do it just right. You’re working towards your goals and you want to succeed this time. Or maybe you haven’t even gotten to the point of starting. Maybe you’re trying to come up with that perfect idea, or the perfect thing to paint, or the words to go into that song you want to write, or the characters for the movie you’re going to make someday. Surely it’ll be easier on the weekend when you have time, right? Maybe…

introducing SNOWSTRIKE // in which I finally talk about my novella!!
So hi, it’s me, and I’M TALKING ABOUT MY NOVELLA. *shock all around* I wrote a novella for the Rooglewood Press Snow White contest and I have been positively DYING* to tell you about it for months and months and yet I am only doing it now after the contest is over because #reasons. I have possibly never been so much in love with an idea and I have certainly never WANTED to tell it to somebody. *YES WE ARE BEING DRAMATIC. I’m excited, okay?? See, if there’s a “secretive writer” stereotype, I BASICALLY AM THAT STEREOTYPE. I don’t tell anyone about anything until it’s all…

2018 GOALS
I’m sorry I’m so bad at introducing my blog posts. I promise, I am the worst at blog post introductions. One year, and I STILL haven’t gotten the hang of it. Let’s try that again. *swoops in with dark chocolate* HAPPY SATURDAY! Can you believe it’s almost the end of January?* *it’s possibly even MORE unbelievable that I am JUST NOW posting my 2018 goals. #win Since I am so awkward at blog post introductions, why don’t we just begin. writing finish a novel. I’ve never, ever completed a full-length novel (middle grade, YA, or otherwise), and this is something I really want to do this…

2017 RECAP //
HAPPY NEW YEAR. Let’s all just pretend that Zane isn’t running way behind on her recap post and basically EVERYTHING kay thanks I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long. Now that I’ve submitted my novella to the Rooglewood Press contest*, I’m hoping to get back to a more… regular schedule? The final week before the contest was insane. XP *whaaaaat yes I DID IT, hopefully there’s a blog post coming on this! So here’s my yearly recap post. Hopefully it isn’t too long for you because IT IS A MONSTER OF A POST. A lot of things happened this year. Wow. Writing definitely took me…

MERRY CHRISTMAS + a guest post!
Hello folks! Can you believe that tomorrow is Christmas Eve? Goodness, I still haven’t adjusted to the fact that autumn is basically over. WHAT HAPPENED? It really is true that time speeds up as you get older. I could write a post on recommended Christmas reading, or the true meaning of Christmas, or how to avoid stress during the holidays, but the truth is I’m pretty stressed these days myself. I’m hoping that everything will calm down a bit during January, and I’ll be able to get back to regular blogging. I really miss this place, and I know I haven’t been as active as I’d like. As for…

If you haven’t been getting emails…
If you haven’t been getting email notifications of my posts, there’s a reason for that. The simple answer is: technical difficulties. The long answer is: I stopped getting email notifications for my blog posts about a month ago, and a few times, randomly, before that. I thought maybe it was just because I was the administrator, or because WordPress was acting up. (I haven’t been getting notifications of my comments either. Still haven’t figured that out.) It wasn’t.
